Well designed. Easy to install. Looks original and the backup camera fit well. It’s nice to be able to lock the tailgate. The lock is somewhat stiff locking and unlocking (despite following the instructions). I often don’t lock or unlock so as to not break something in the process- it doesn’t feel sturdy. I would buy again and I do recommend it.
Unfortunately it didn’t arrive yesterday as promised but it did arrive this morning. The installation went well and the key alike option is working flawlessly.
I just bought a TopperEZLift Weekender for my 2005 Toyota short bed I wanted to be able to lock up the back tail gate. My son found this locking handle on line for me. This was a necessary purchase in order to make a tonneau cover viable for storing things in my truckbed. I read the previous reviews and was very nervous since there seemed to be about a 20% failure rate. How there was ONLY ONE option in this era of Amazon overload with thousands of products from all over the world, I'm not sure, but this is what I had to buy. I have been VERY careful with the lock, and it has so far been fine. However, it never feels like a solid lock. There is no definitive moment at which it feels locked, and checking it each time, it seems as though it could easily be broken. As others have noted, it feels flimsy. If it breaks, getting into the truckbed now would mean possibly tearing up the tonneau cover. But this lock did open up a ton of possibility for me with regard to carrying camping and backpacking gear for me and friends! This was the primary reason for this purchase, along with the tonneau cover. I never put anything of extremely high value back there, but now people can't just walk by and easily grab something (paddleboard), which did happen once before the lock and cover. Thus, I am pleased with this purchase so far, although I wish I had a choice of a more solid feeling lock. I have also been pleased with other purchases from etrailer.
I had the old pop & lock model for my 2005 Tacoma prior to getting this model. I upgraded to getting this model and it is fantastic! It secures all of my expensive tools and is of good quality. I love it and would highly recommend putting this lock on your tailgate.

Great. Operates as designed.
Installed the latch in less than 10 minutes. It looks great on my 2015 Tacoma. Very happy with my purchase. The best feature is that I can use my truck key and not carry around one extra key just for the lock.

Lock has worked great for the past year. It feels a little loose inside but still works great. The color has faded from the original black to lighter grey but honestly, I expected that in the southern summers we have. Very happy with this product and will certainly purchase again.
Easy install took 45 minutes outside in 32° weather.
Good instructions.

Secure, sturdy and reliable even at 0 deg F. Locks with the same key as the truck. I dont have a tailgate camera so I cant comment on that.
Installed on my 2015 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. Replaces original fine using the original gasket. Has a few less pins to hold the gasket in place, but its sufficient. Handle is a bit smaller than the original due to the lock, so you have a little less leverage. This install (per instructions) requires you reverse the "wire" on the drivers side so that it does not rub against the locking mechanism, and in this specified alignment, it cannot use the middle support clamp and it rubs on the internal support structure of the tailgate. As a result, it's hard to open the tailgate. As a modification, I left the rod/wire in its original alignment, but placed a small bend in it about two inches or so away from the connection point to the lock (see pictures). This makes the latch work much better as the wire/rod can still be strapped into the middle support!
Recently purchased hard trifold cover for truck bed. Found this tailgate locking mechanism. Received it today and installation was pretty simple. Works well.
Very satisfied with the tailgate lock. Delivery was fast and the video instructions on the website were well done that even a novice was able to understand. The product was installed in under 20 minutes and is working great!
Easy to install and the best I can code the lock to the truck key that was one of the main reasons I bought it from etrailer, and the pop and lock defender secures my gate and it doesn’t interfere with the gate, the videos are very helpful and easy to follow ; I recommend to buy it from here you won’t be disappointed.

Easy to install! Looks exactly like the Toyota installed handle except with a lock! Make sure you use power tools makes the job easy and quick. The key to like is simple to do and is a must feature to purchase. Camera knock out and all the bolts line up perfectly. Read the instructions and look closely at the pictures if done correctly should take no longer the 30 minutes or less to install. Take your time.

Does the job but not as rugged as the OEM handle - doesn't feel as sturdy, but it does latch ok. I do really like how it keys readily to the ignition key; that is awesome. Overall, it's good but for the price I expected a sturdier product.

Works and locks well, but not nearly as sturdy or smooth to operate as OEM. Awesome that it keys to the main truck key. Lock holds well but does not feel smooth to lock and unlock. Would prefer sturdier smoother product.
Works as intended....very impressed, 15 minutes and presto, I have a locking tail gate, with my back-up camera still intact. I really should have done this earlier, but better late than never I guess.
Product seems to be better than the rest I've looked at.
Install was pretty straightforward, instructions were detailed. Looks good, appears to work. lock/key matching easy.
Send me another email after a year and we'll see if the 4 star moves to 5.

1 year on, 5 star. Operation has been flawless. Nice to have the tailgate security
Just got it installed. Took me about 20 minutes. Easy install. The only concern is the handle itself. Its not as sturdy and thick as the OEM handle. It's pretty flimsy and feels like it'll break after a few years of tough use. It actually hurts a bit to open the gate and support it with your fingers unlike the oem handle. otherwide, easy install and easy coding.

The lock set has been great haven’t had any issues with it. I have pass the product to a couple friends and they both purchased one. The quality is great.
